1993-96 Nissan Altima - Intermittent No Start

If you experience a 1993-1996 Nissan Altima that has an intermittent no start condition, don't be too hasty to condemn the starter (Bosch p/n SR2266X). Check the cables first. Bet you thought we'd say look at the battery cables...wrong. Nissan says that in these cases, the automatic transmission control cable may be too short. To check for this, the vehicle should have the transmission placed in the park position, with the engine shut off. The car should then be raised off the ground so that you can access the nut which secures the automatic control cable to the automatic transmission manual shaft. At this point the nut should be removed. If the pin which the nut was on is not centered in the slot on the arm then the cable is too short and needs to be replaced with a new cable. Removal and installation of a new cable takes about 1 hour.
