Shift Lever Sticks in Gear

Nissan Pickup 4-cylinder 1990-92

 

Symptoms: The manual transmission may intermittently stick in first or reverse gear. The shift lever can not be moved.

Diagnosis:  Make sure that:
1. Clutch pedal height checks out O.K.
2. Clutch hydraulic system has adequate fluid, no leaks, and has been bled.
3. Vehicle did not creep forward or backward when shifter was stuck.

Correction: Replace clutch cover (pressure plate) and disc.

NOTE: We recommend replacing the release bearing and pilot bearing when replacing the clutch cover and disc.
