1991-1993 Alfa Romeo 164 - Check Wiring Harness

1991-1993 Alfa Romeo 164s (SR0485X) have a wiring harness configuration that must be checked any time a starter is being replaced on these cars. It seems that the ground for the starter (G202) is also used as the ground for the ABS ECU and the ABS Electronic Relay. If the bolt which connects this ground is not tight, providing a solid ground connection, the starter may ground itself through the ABS ECU!! If this happens, the ABS ECU will be destroyed, causing some expensive warranty work. This starter ground (G202) can be easily located in the engine compartment, on the driver side strut tower just under the coolant reservoir bottle.
